A quieter way to find local help.

A star rating alone favours places with very few reviews: two five-star ratings would beat hundreds of 4.7s. So every business starts as if it had 10 ratings of 3.5 stars, and its real reviews move it from there. The more people rate a place, the more their opinion counts.

A business without reviews stays at the 3.5-star starting point. Ties go to the one with more reviews. Payment never comes into it.

A city list is published once it holds at least 5 businesses, and a neighbourhood list once it holds 3.

Reviews are only useful when they are honest, so each one is checked against these before it is published.

1. 01Write from experienceReview a business you have used yourself, and describe what happened to you.
2. 02Keep to the pointThe service, the price, the people. Leave unrelated disputes out.
3. 03Stay civilNo threats, insults, harassment or hate, even after a bad experience.
4. 04Respect privacyNo phone numbers, home addresses or full names of staff or other customers.
5. 05No conflicts of interestOwners and staff can't review their own business, or a competitor.
6. 06Nothing in exchangeNo reviews for discounts, gifts or money. Businesses must not offer them.

We remove reviews that break these guidelines, but not reviews that are simply critical. Nobody can pay to have one removed.
